Interview Confidence
Here are some simple pointers to assist you to prepare for the interview.
These pointers are based on our experience as interviewers and the feedback that we've received from our clients regarding the candidates that they've interviewed.
Presentation
This is so important! Dress for the role and the industry. If your quality of presentation is not commensurate with the role for which you're applying, you could miss out on the role before the interview starts.
Always be well groomed and choose your clothes carefully. For senior roles in Finance or IT, professional and fairly conservative business attire is advised. Keep your overall look professional and subtle no strong fragrances (eg, aftershave or perfume) or loud colours or patterns - and be polished, in all aspects of your appearance.
Communication skills
Answer questions succinctly. Be articulate. Keep to the point. Be interested. Ask insightful questions.
Interpersonal skills
Be relaxed, but confident. A sense of humour can be powerful, but don't overdo it. Be polite, and show good manners. Be positive. Be on time.
The Job
Preparation is vital. Research as much as you can about the position and the organisation. Make sure you get a copy of the role description from the recruiter prior to the interview. If you don't have enough information about the role to adequately prepare for the interview, then request more.
Be confident of your strengths and be prepared to give examples of where you have demonstrated relevant experience and achievement in a previous role.
